Island Books & Crafts has a great variety of arts and crafts all of which are made by local artists, craftsmen and women right here in Michigan. In addition, we feature a nice variety of both new and used books. We invite you to stop by and browse our offerings. We are very easy to find on the corner of Ashmun Street and Portage Avenue in the historic Sault Savings Bank building, formerly Traverse Bay Woolen.

Located in the downtown section of historic Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, one block from the Soo Locks and across the street from the weekly Farmer’s Market. "Island" in the store’s name refers to the fact that this area is indeed an island, with the Sault power canal separating it from the rest of the city.

A variety of quality handcrafted wood products from local artisans are for sale. These range from pieces of furniture like gun cabinets, bookshelves, benches and coffee tables, to smaller items such as coat racks, jewelry cases, walking sticks and picture frames.

A large variety of new and used books are for sale. We feature books by Michigan authors or about Michigan with topics covering history and culture in the U.P. as well as ships and wrecks on the Great Lakes. Used books are accepted on an exchange basis.

Products designed and crafted by Michigan artisans. These include bird-houses and feeders, jewelry, photographs, prints and paintings, quilts, greeting cards, stained glass, wood toys and doll furniture, purses and an ever-changing variety of other items. It’s a craft show every day!
